Peter Bauck, Clinical Ethics & Research Associate

Dr. Bauck received his BA from Gustavus Adolphus College, his MDiv from Yale University Divinity School, and his PhD from Luther Seminary. He served on ethics committees in acute care settings for nine years. He was co-chair of an ethics committee, which included handling ethics consults and ethics education for the hospital. He was also chair of an ethics education sub-committee at a local trauma center. He has planned ethics grand rounds, helped develop ethics policies, created ethics education for new resident physicians, and given ethics presentations to nursing staff and ethics committees. He is a board certified chaplain with Association of Professional Chaplains, a certified Psychological First Aid trainer through Minnesota Department of Health, and a certified advanced care planner through Respecting Choices.

His research interests in clinical ethics include moral psychology, inter-cultural and religious issues in clinical practice, and healthcare disparities. His dissertation was titled, “Empathy as Sacred Ethic: A Chaplain’s Perspective on Difficult End of Life Cases.”
